Term	Description
Ship owner	A person who arms a ship by supplying him with equipment, food, fuel, crew and all that is necessary for navigation. It operates the vessel on its behalf, whether or not it is the owner.
Shipper	A person who leases a vessel or carries on a leased vessel under the terms of the lease or charter party.
Sling	Ropes that surround the packages to hang them on a hoist or a crane.
Spread	Period of the tide during which the water level remains constant (tidal spread) or during which the velocity of the sea currents vanishes (current spread).
Stowage	Operation consisting in securely securing the goods on board the vessel.
Stuffing	Handling consisting or placing goods in a container.
